Tim started his career as a horseman as a steeplechase jockey in his native England. Tim spent the early part of his career with Breeders Cup winning trainer Michael Dickinson when Dickinson was training steeplechase horses in England. Tim moved on to a smaller hands-on operation and was involved in the preparation of several Group winning horses.

After Tim's move to the US in 1988 he availed himself of multiple opportunities to hone his craft. Tim studied conformation while working for consignors at the Keeneland September Sale. He wintered in Ocala where he worked with leading pinhookers in the preparation of yearlings for the two-year-old in training sales.

In 1995 Tim established his own Stable at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland. As Tim states, "This gave me the freedom to grow in an environment which has a European atmosphere and a choice in track surfaces which were more suited in the development of young horses and maintaining the soundness of both mind and body to the older campaigners."

After primarily bringing young horses along for other trainers, he has expanded his own stable of race horses and have enjoyed much success with a small stable of about fifteen horses.

As a smaller stable, Tim is able to recognize each horse's individual needs and train them accordingly. The yearlings that Tim breaks are given a thorough education. He quickly assesses which horses to push on and which horses to train more conservatively.
